Vintage early-to-mid-century Japanese Fawn – 7″ – velveteen spotted young deer, marked/tagged “Japan”
– retains a cloth label sewn into the seam “JAPAN”
– she is about 7″ x 7″
– she is made of what I believe is velveteen – the pile is too short for it to be a velvet
– I believe it is a natural fabric, not synthetic – and not silk
– the piece is realistic, not the cartoonish, sawdust-filled pieces of the 1960’s with the glued on felt and vinyl accents –
– she has black eyes
– she also embroidered black floss nose and mouth, and there white highlight stitches on her nose
-she is unjointed and hard stuffed
– her airbrushed darker brown color and baby deer spots is uniform; the additional detail in black adds to her realism
– she has a vintage bell ties on with ribbon – I didn’t try to remove it but I don’t think it’s original
– I have seen this exact piece in the secondary market attributed to German manufacturers and the quality is there – this is a lovely piece to add to a Christmas display or any vintage collection
– very good or better condition
