This sweet doggie joins his sitting brother and his standing cousin, Boxer, in my shop. Sarras was made from 1954 to 1958, so even at his youngest, Sarras is over 60 years old.
The standing Sarras was made in three sizes, and this sweet pup is the smallest one. The “10” in his article number, 1310,0, designates Sarras’s catalogued size in centimeters to the top of his head. He is just a bit bigger, measuring a little over four inches tall.
Sarras is in very good condition (and I mean DESPITE his age, not “for his age,”) with just slight evidence of wear. His mohair has some very slight thinning in a few areas, but you should be able to see that it is basically full.
Actually, Sarras’s wear is primarily in his collar and chest tag, not in Sarras, himself. His chest tag was (and still is) badly worn and creased. I say “still is” because, although I have reinforced the tag with cardboard on the back, there is no way to take away the creases. However, I did make the tag crisp to the touch, and from a display distance, it looks fine. Sarras’s leather collar has some wear along the edges, but it has no cracking.
That’s it. Sarras’s color does not seem at all faded. This goes for his black velveteen chin as well as his mohair, which is a tawny cognac color on his back and most of the way down his sides. The color on his sides turns gold toward the bottom, and this color continues on his underside.
Both the insides and the backs of Sarras’s felt ears have airbrushed accents. The tips of backs are now charcoal gray, so I believe they are slightly faded from the black they probably once were, but the rose-colored airbrushing on the insides of his ears is undoubtedly as strong as it ever was!
I think the above covers everything you might want to know about this rare sweet pup, but please write if you have a question. Sarras would make a fantastic addition to your Steiff dog or your boxer collection, or the collection of someone you love.
