Steiff Fuzzy Gray Seated Cat Kitten Susi All ID Plus Care Booklet One Size Only Near Mint

The Steiff Kitty Fairy has paid me another visit! This adorable kitten bears the same name as the Fairy’s last treasure, but this Susi is a more modern take on the venerable Steiff seated Susi mohair cat. Steiff discontinued the tabby-striped Susi in 1978. I guess there was such a clamoring for a sitting cat named Susi, that Steiff filled the Susi void with this little lady. She was produced from 1982 to 1988, not very long compared with her predecessor, so I am delighted to have the opportunity to help her find a new home.

Susi’s article number is 1493/13, with the “13” designating her height in centimeters, measured to the top of her head. She comes fairly close, at 13.5 centimeters, about 5 3/8 inches high. For some inexplicable reason, Pfeiffer lists her as 14 centimeters. I believe that was an editorial goof.

I have very little to tell you about Susi, since her pictures should tell you everything you would want to know, where the worst things you can see are a touch of fraying on one end of her ribbon and some signs of handling on her care booklet.

You can see how nice and fuzzy Susi is, which comes from her covering of a blend of acrylic and cotton. I don’t know what she is stuffed with, but it is relatively hard, although not as hard as excelsior would be.

I know it is unusual for you to read such an abbreviated description from me, but there is nothing more to mention. Of course, please write if you have a question.

Since I am not giving you a long, detailed dissertation on Susi, I will share a bit of information with you that, of course, would have no bearing on your decision of whether to adopt her. But this model of Susi has a special meaning to me. Soon after the man who became my husband and I started to get serious in 1983, he presented me with this model Susi when she was new. I believe she was the first gift he ever gave to me. He knew nothing about Steiff, nor, at that time, I believe, that I collected Steiff animals. He knew only that I loved cats. The fact that by some twist of fate, he gave me such an appropriate gift, told me we were bound to have a future together. 🙂
