I’m delighted to offer this sweet 10-cm Foxy puppy to you, although he is not AS rare as his next-smaller-size brother—at least using his production dates as an indicator. But I use my own sales records for data, and he seldom appears in them. I have helped a number of 8-cm Foxys—either as themselves, or with the persona of Sparky, Ginny’s Pup. It’s true that I did offer a 10-cm Foxy in 2021, but before that, the last time I helped this size Foxy find a home was 2010! In any case, this cute puppy hopes I will help him relocate.
Foxy’s glass eyes and earlier version of a raised-script button with skinny letters allow me to narrow his likely dates of production to the two earliest series, the first of which, with article number 1310,0, was made between 1949 and 1958. Foxy’s button means he was very likely not made before 1951. The next series of the 10-cm foxy, with article number 1310,00, was made between 1959 and 1964.
The “10” in either article number denotes Foxy’s height in centimeters. He is actually a bit tinier than his catalogue designation, measuring about 3 5/8 inches tall to the top of his head.
Even at his youngest, Foxy would be near the end of his sixth decade. With a few condition issues, none of which is egregious, Foxy has weathered the decades fairly well. Because he has more then one indication of play and wear, I will conservatively say that he is in good-plus condition. I rate my Steiff animals absolutely, no matter when they were “born,” so my assessment of Foxy’s condition is DESPITE his age, not the meaningless “for his age” you see all the time.
One element of Foxy’s condition is the thinning along his seams, with a bit more along the seam that runs down the center of his long terrier muzzle and the seam that extends up and over his tail, with the very tip of his tail the most affected. Otherwise, Foxy’s mohair coverage is fairly nice, with a tiny touch of overall thinning. And, although I am supposed to be listing his detractions, I will take this opportunity to point out that Foxy’s main white color is probably not significantly different from what it was when he left Giengen.
Another positive element of Foxy’s condition is his bow. It has some fading (more on the right half), but it is still fairly nice, with very little fraying and still anchored to his neck.
Foxy’s other main sign of wear is the fading of his airbrushed black and orange areas. These are still present, but in a subdued fashion. Foxy does still have a reasonable amount of rose-colored airbrushing above his nose and under his mouth.
That’s it; I can’t think of anything else to tell you, but please write if you have a question. If you are a fan of Steiff dogs, or terriers in particular, Foxy will delight you. And if he is destined to join the kennel of the Steiff puppy aficionado in your life, they will be delighted as well.
