I am really out of my element with this doll. She came to me as part of a collection that included Steiff and other stuffed animals. Heritage Mint, Ltd. is an American company started in 1976, which made/makes collectibles of various kinds. Although they once made many different kinds of items, it appears that they only offer two kinds today, one of which is supplied by another manufacturer. As far as I could determine, the only product Heritage Mint makes today are brass belt buckles. 🙂
At one time, Heritage Mint made several varieties of dolls, including two series of bisque porcelain dolls, called America’s Porcelain Dolls, followed by a “I” or a “II.” There were eight dolls in each series, and this doll, whose name is “Megan,” is from the second series. I can’t say for sure that all the dolls were the same size, although I can tell you that Megan is 16 inches tall.
It appears that Megan was made only in 1988 and 1989, thus she was a limited edition, although I don’t know how many Megan dolls were made in total. Megan is also Identified by the company as “D-33.”
Megan is in very good condition. Her lace and taffeta clothes look pristine, as do her porcelain parts. I have not rated her as “excellent” for two reasons, both related to her head and may be connected. Megan had a hat at one time, which is now gone. And her long wavy auburn hair is somewhat disheveled, although it looks fine from a display distance. Megan comes with her stand, which is identified on the bottom as “MADE IN TAIWAN,” and with her information booklet.
Speaking of her clothes, I hope I have not embarrassed Megan by revealing her pantaloons. 😉 I believe they are cotton. I believe her upper body is covered with cotton too, and unfortunately her upper body covering is glued to the rest of her too high to show you a good image of her marks. I did not want to risk tearing the fabric by pulling it down further, but I managed to reveal most of her markings.
I can’t think of anything else you might want to know, but please write if you have a question. I have told you everything I managed to learn while researching Heritage Mint, Ltd. and studying Megan in person, but you are welcome to write.
If you are looking at Megan because you collect Steiff and found her in my shop, please consider adopting her along with a small pet animal.
