The “Zotty Fairy” has paid me another visit! Just like his baby brother, this third smallest Zotty has tempted me to call him “near mint,” and, just as I did with the baby, I will conservatively say that he is “only” 😉 excellent. And, as always, my assessment of his condition is DESPITE his age, not “for his age.”
As you can see clearly, Zotty’s article number is 6322,00, with the “22” indicating his catalogued size. He is very close to that, measuring 8 3/4 inches to the top of his head. According to Pfeiffer, this Zotty was made in 1959 only. It is curious he was made for so short a time. I wonder how, if at all, the subsequent series, 6322,00, made from 1960 to 1964, is different. I am going by Pfeiffer’s information, which I have seen, on other occasions, is not absolutely accurate and/or complete.
Zotty has two slight imperfections, both of which are at the “nitpicking” level, and one of them—his silent squeaker—has no effect on his visual presentation. Zotty’s other imperfection is really slight, and the only reason I can mention it, is because I have his baby brother right next to him on my desk. I can look from one to the other to make comparisons. The “big” boy’s felt paw and foot pads are ever so slightly faded. I am saying this on the assumption that the dye lot of both Zotty brothers was same. The felt lining the inside of Zotty’s mouth is a touch closer to ripe cantaloupe in color, but the main color you see is his spectacular rose-colored airbrushing!
Like the baby, this Zotty has a touch of overall thinning, but I believe it is even less than his brother’s, at least on his paws. Another slight advantage this Zotty has is near-pristine ribbon, which is not at all faded, has very little fraying, and, of course, is still tacked to his neck.
I already noted, in passing, that Zotty no longer “roars,” but, as I always point out, this is not something you SEE in an animal whose squeaker has gone silent. Zotty will look just as spectacular on display as he would if he roared (and even if he did, it is not something you would SEE).
You may have read (or will now read) the baby’s description, but I will give you this information here too. Zotty’s name derives from the German word “zottig,” which means “shaggy,” and the first number, “6,” of his article number indicates that he is a young animal, and, as always, Steiff has successfully conveyed that baby look.
I can’t think of anything else to tell you, but please write if you have a question. You will be absolutely delighted if Zotty comes to live with you, or if you have a lucky collector in mind for receiving Zotty as a gift, they will be delighted as well.
